With 85% of the world's population moving to urban areas, the trend of aging is accelerating even further.
In Japan, the concentration of population in Tokyo is intensifying. People from the western metropolises of Fukuoka, Osaka, and even Kanagawa move to Tokyo in search of work. Most of those who move to Tokyo are in their 20s, and a significant number are women. More women come to Tokyo to work rather than attend university.
However, as Tokyo's population density increases, competition for jobs intensifies, and the cost of living rises. Despite the high population density, the birth rate is not increasing. 😂😂
Although there are incentives for regional revitalization, the reality is that, while some people are drawn to rural areas, it is difficult to earn a long-term living there.
Japan's current population of 120 million is expected to decrease to 67 million by 2100. Additionally, with 40% of the population aged 65 or older, Japan will become a super-aged society. To maintain the current standard of living, the number of children born needs to be three times the current rate. For Japan's economy to grow, this rate would need to be four, five, or six times higher. 😅😅
However, it doesn't seem that the government is putting in much effort to tackle the declining birthrate issue.
It is expected that taxes will increase, and by the time children born in 2024 turn 70 in 2100, they will need to support their elders.
Globally, population aging is also accelerating. In Italy 🇮🇹, similar phenomena to Japan are occurring, with a high number of elderly people and increasing youth unemployment, causing young people to seek work in countries like the UK 🇬🇧.
This situation is reminiscent of young Japanese 🇯🇵 going to Australia 🇦🇺 on working holidays.
While things are manageable now, Africa and South America will also face accelerated aging in the future, leading to similar issues globally.
If I were in charge, I might encourage people to move to rural areas by providing a basic income of 50,000 to 70,000 yen per month, regardless of age (though there are funding issues).
Although it's certain that society will continue to face challenges, and these issues cannot be avoided while living in Japan, there may be a need to consider moving abroad in the future. 😂😂
